Eliminate gated reverb applied to drums

I kind of like '80s rock and pop music. I'd love some of it, if I didn't hate that dreadful gated reverb effect applied to drums.

It would be great if there was a way to eliminate that effect in music records. Does anybody know if that's possible?

I'm not proficient with any audio editor. I've tried with some Audacity's plug-ins and Cool Edit, but I've only found some ways to increase the effect, making it all worse.

Thanks!

Re: Eliminate gated reverb applied to drums

No. Can't be done with the current tech in any meaningful way.

Maybe the new version of melodyne (due by autumn I think) might be able to separate out the drums a bit, then you could gate them a bit to kill the ring. But I doubt it will be that effective at splitting off the sounds, and it will still be near impossible to unreverb the drums. To quote Juno, "That's one doodle that can't be undid, homeskillet."
